What is Cancer and Its Cause?

Cancer is a general term. It is a term that describes a disease in which cells undergo cellular changes that cause uncontrolled growth and division.

Some cancers cause rapid cell proliferation, while others slow down the rate of cell division.

Certain forms of cancer result in visible growths called tumors, while others, such as leukemia, do not.

The majority of cells in our bodies have a specific function and a set lifespan. Cell death, while it sounds like something bad, is actually a natural and beneficial process called apoptosis.

Cancer

A cell receives instructions from the body to cease dividing. This allows it to be replaced by a healthier, more efficient cell. Cancerous cells lack components that tell them to stop dividing and to die.

These cells can build up and use oxygen and nutrients to nourish other cells. Tumors and other cancerous cells can cause damage to the immune system, make it difficult for the body to function properly, and even lead to death.

The lymph nodes can spread cancerous cells from one location to another. These are immune cells clusters that are located all over the body.

Causes

There are many reasons for cancer. However, some can be avoided.

For example, over 480,000 people die in the U.S. each year from smoking cigarettes, according to data reported in 2014.

Smoking is not the only risk factor.

  • heavy alcohol consumption
  • excess Body weight
  • Inactivity can lead to physical inactivity
  • poor nutrition
Cancer

Other causes of tumors cannot be prevented. The most important unpreventable risk factor in cancer is age. According to the American Cancer Society, doctors in the U.S. diagnose 87 percent of its case in people ages 50 years or older.

Is cancer genetic?

The development of cancer can be influenced by genes.

Your genetic code is what tells your cells when they should divide and when they should expire. A mutation in a gene can cause cancer.

Genes can also influence the cell’s production of protein, and proteins contain many instructions for cellular growth.

Some genes can alter the proteins of cells that have been damaged. This can lead to cancer. This can lead to cancer if the genes are passed down from one parent to another.

Some genetic changes may occur after birth. Sun exposure and smoking can increase your risk.

Other changes that may lead to this disease include chemical signals, which control the way the body “expresses” certain genes.

The last thing is that a person can inherit a predisposition towards a certain type of cancer. This may be called hereditary cancer syndrome by a doctor. Inherited genetic mutations significantly contribute to the development of 5-10 percent of cancer cases.
